In most instances and for most people the Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) have proven themselves to be safe as a self-administered process of trauma recovery. However, in the case of severe unresolved trauma the individual may experience overwhelming emotions due to the inability to stay focused on the body as it experiences these tremors. For this reason individuals with physical limitations, or severe psychological or emotional stress are advised to practice these exercises only in the presence of a professional. Professional therapists can provide you with the support, comfort and psycho-emotional connection you may need as a result of the emotional discharge experienced from these tremors. As always, when involved in the trauma recovery process it is important to go slow, respect your body and gently restore yourself back to health. There is no need or benefit in trying to rush the process of recovery. If you are uncertain about using these exercises, please read the Intake_questionnaire.

MISSION & IDEOLOGY

Trauma Releasing Exercises LLC (TRE) is dedicated to providing relief and recovery programs to survivors of large scale trauma due to natural disasters or human-made disasters. To provide recovery services to large scale populations due to mass trauma a new paradigm of recovery is needed. This recovery process must be easily learned, able to be self-applied without the aid of a therapist, must be applicable cross-culturally and can potentially have an immediate relaxation effect. TRE is a natural recovery process inherent in the human body that can be learned and repeated by anyone regardless of their culture or level of education.

Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) are designed to allow the individual to engage in their own therapeutic process with or without the aid of a therapist (some exceptions apply). These exercises are generally safe for most individuals (exceptions) and can be practiced by the individual alone, by members of support groups or within the family setting. They can have immediate relaxing effects which can be felt by the individual. These exercises are designed to elicit the natural recovery mechanisms of the human organism. The exercises evoke the natural neurogenic tremors experienced at the time of a traumatic event. These neurogenic tremors are part of an instinctual memory in the human animal. The body elicits them to discharge the high energetic charge created during the time of a traumatic experience. They are part of the genetic composition of the human organism. The basic principle of these exercises is that by evoking these natural tremoring reactions of the human body, humans like animals can “pass through the immobility or terror response of the trauma and become fully mobile and functional again” (Levine, P. 1997. Waking the Tiger). By reinforcing and harnessing these primordial and instinctual tremors instead of treating them as a pathology humans, like animals, can resolve the psychosomatic expressions of their trauma so that the human organism can be restored to its natural psychological and physical state of health.

Paradigm Shift. The human animal is designed to experience, endure, survive and evolve from traumatic episodes. If we did not possess this ability the human species would have become extinct shortly after it was born. This natural ability to let go of and resolve post traumatic reactions is genetically encoded in us to complete one process and begin something new as a part of our unending cycle of evolution. When a traumatic event occurs, the individual feels overwhelmed and the experience seems unbearable. However it is precisely because of this overwhelming experience that the individual is forced out of their old way of thinking into a new way of being in the universe. Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, all experienced trauma and used their painful encounters to develop a more moral and ethical response to their traumatic circumstances. Their lives demonstrate to us that the trauma recovery process contains the possibility of helping the human person develop into a more moral and ethical species. If we can repeat this process for thousands or millions of people, we can use the transforming power inherent in the trauma recovery process to transform the ethical and moral foundations of humanity. The survivors of mass trauma may be the new species of the human person trying to be born. Mass trauma may be the process whereby the human species is evolving into a more loving, moral and evolved species. The trauma survivors of the third world may be the harbingers of a human morality necessary to temper the technology of the first world. These survivors may be evidence of the natural evolution of the human species from the Age of Technology to the Age of Wisdom.
